Balfron Tower, Poplar.

Designed by Erno Goldfinger. 1963.

A brutalist utopia.

Shot on 5x4 film.

I photographed inside the Balfron tower while it was under guardianship of Bow Arts, before being gutted and redevloped to private flats. The scandal of social cleansing across London continues: councils selling off social housing to cope with the massive cuts made by the government.

Each flat contains 50 years of memories, the families have moved out but the memories stay embedded in every piece of pealing wallpaper, every unemptied ashtray on the balcony. The post still on the mat.

London-based photographer.
